What is the equilibrium constant and ∆G° for the reaction between:

I2 (s) and Br(-) (aq)

*I'm not getting this

  1. Right down the balance equation.

    Look up DeltaG0f for Br- and I- (DeltaG0f for I2 and Br2 is 0; why?)

    Use DeltaG0(reaction) = sum{DeltaG0products} - sum{DeltaG0reactants}

    Finally, use

    DeltaGo(reaction) = - RT ln K

    Fiddly arithmetic.  To avoid common mistakes, remember to convert kJ to J,  and of course T is Kelvin.
