*I know that they are needed.. but I really don't know why they should be there..

* I also know that they're witnesses but we are all witnesses in the church if we attend the wedding, right?

*Okay, so explain it to me..=)

  1. you dont have to have them.Just close family or friends that you want standing close to you.

  2. JUST HAVE THEM AND DONT COMPLAIN

  3. I looked at it like this these are the people that have shared in the both joys and the sorrows of your life.

Maid/matron aid you during the entire planning process and suppose to help take the weight off you shoulders

bridesmaids & groomsmen in the "olden" days were uses confuse the evil spirts of who the bride and groom was (so I was told by my mom).

    hope this helps

  4. No, they are not needed.  The idea that you need anything more than a MOH and Best man (as witnesses) is a figment of the wedding industry and women emulating the very rich.

I am having no attendants, not even a maid of honor nor is my guy having a best man.  My sister and his brother will just sign the paperwork.

  5. they are the ones who usually prepare the bridal shower, hen night and help with all the preparations the day of and otherwise

they are there for support and love and a great way to share your day with the ones you really care about

  6. I read other responses, and I do remember the evil spirits thing, but i'll give an up-to-date answer.

I understand what you're saying by what's the point? there's other witnesses? Lots of times the pastor or priest will want the maid of honor or best man to sign as witness in the marriage certificate... but when i picked my bridesmaids, i picked the people who have been there thru our relationship over the years and have stayed true and loyal and who i want to be special and stand out against the rest of the people int he church...  all the fights that you'd have with your fiancee...and the person you would turn too to let you cry on their shoulder, those are the ones who should stand out on your day... your best friends.. your sisters... i feel the ones up there with you are the ones that represent that happiness from both sides- the bride and the groom.  "you are the company you keep" so when people look at the bridesmaids and the bride, they can see what kinda person you are based off of the great people you have beside you... and when you look at the groomsmen and how they act like brothers, people get an idea of how the groom is...

    hope that helps :)

  7. the historical reason for bridesmaids is to distract evil spirits away from the bride on the wedding day.  groomsmen are there for the bridesmaids to make out with when they drink too much at the reception.  haha!

  8. Back in the olden days, people believed in evil spirits. So when a woman got married, they would have 2 or3 other women from the village dress up like the bride and stand beside her, so that if any evil spirits came, they would be confused as to who was the bride. Also, there had to be "official" witnesses who would sign the marriage license along with the Preacher.
