If you are starting with a well maintained pool and you know what you are doing, then $38/month, most of that is electricity is about right to do it yourself.

If you want to hire someone to do it for you then expect to pay about $100 per month unless you want the pool maintenance equivalent of the mow-blow-and go lawn maintenance guys who charge considerably less and do less too.

Insurance is covered by your homeowner insurance but if you don't have a slide or diving board it should be only a little more than a house without a pool.

My recommendation is if you have never taken care of a pool, get a qualified pool maintenance person to do it for you and if you want to learn then tell them that up front and schedule a time when you will be there.

I clean it myself.  Total monthly cost is $38. Best money i ever spent.
