    "Papa" in Italian is "priest."

    The suffix "accio" adds the meaning, "bad."

    .... "bad priest"?

    Well, it's a place to start.

    I hope it has to do with the vegetable called a papacella.

Papaccio is a pejorative version (a changing of the name to form a taunt or insult) of the Italian name Papa, which was a nickname used to describe the man who looked like a priest, or pope - and in some cases it described the illigitimate child of a priest. For those tracing their heritage to the north of Italy it was more often used there to describe a vain or pompous man. Of course, none of this is a reflection on you - it only means that your medieval ancestor had some reason to be described with the name, back when last names were just beginning to be added. Lo Papa is a variation, and in France, England and Low German areas it is found as Pape.
