  2. I suspect that pubic hair, like our appendix, is relict. That is, leftover from prehistoric times and will eventually (millenia probably) disappear as has much of our other body hair.

  3. There are numerous theories regarding this. The most plausible functions in my mind are:

    1. To reduce heat loss. Humans lose the most heat from their head, under their arms and between their legs- this is where most hair is found, including pubic hair.

    2. To collect pheromones that are secreted from nearby glands. Pheromones are chemicals that help attract mates for reproduction.

    However, since most of us wear clothes these days, neither of these functions is relevant.

  4. To protect the genitalia and help maintain bodily temperature.  

  5. It delays biting flies from getting at moist sensitive areas of the body.

    Aren't you glad that you live in a part of the world where biting flies are rare?
