please do not answer with anything that travels in space. I'm looking for jets that are found in the military or are commercially used such as passenger jets.

  1. In 1990 the SR-71 Blackbird-A Flew at Mach 3.2. (2,242 Mph) and flew as high as 85,068.997 Ft. That was the last flight of the blackbird.

  2. Le Concorde commercial passenger jet.

Military?  We public are probably not privy to the straight dope on this one.

  3. The space shuttles are not jets.

Look online for project Aurora...if it exists I think this jet has won hands down.

  4. easy the SR-71 Blackbird this aircraft was used for military purpose it could mount on space shuttles and fly above 90 thousand feet this aircraft can feel close to zero gravity this aircrafts record speed just reach about 2576mph 2896kmp capable of m4 (moc 4 its super sonic sound takes about 7 seconds following the aircraft for it to hit your ear) this aircraft can have extreme forces and survive witch can cross Atlantic ocean in less then an hour and cross pacific in about 3 hours. this aircraft was demanded as air board safety jurisdiction and was considered a top secret aircraft.

  5. Lockheed Blackbird SR71, 2,193.1669 mph (3,529.56 km/h).

EDIT: The X-15 project had a rocket power plant, not a jet engine.

  6. The fastest a plane has gone, it is called hypersonic

The fastest a commerciall planes has gone is called transonic

  7. The fastest non-space vehicle which carried a pilot was the North American X-15

    4,510 MPH

    7,258 K/H

    .

  8. The Lockheed SR-71 is the fastest flying airplane with air breathing engines...Mach 3 plus...Actual top speed is classified...Crew of 2..Cruising altitiude between 85,000 and 100,000 feet.

  9. BAE Concorde is the fastest passenger jet ever with a human on board it went at twice the speed of souns (mach2)

  10. The world speed record was held by the SR-71 Blackbird of the USAF.  It is a high speed high altitude intruder spy plane.  I believe it can do somewhere in the 2200mph range.  It crossed the atlantic ocean in an hour and a half (something like that).  Pretty darn fast.

  11. All these answers referencing Lockheed's SR-71 as the fastest air-breathing jet (not rocket) are correct.

A few minor things.  The last flight of the SR-71 took place in October of 1999 under NASA's LASRE program.

Lacrosse dude, I suggest reading Brian Shul's book "Sled Driver" if you wish to make people believe you ever piloted a Habu or were one yourself.

  12. SR-71

New York to London  - 1974

    1 hr. 54 min. 56.4 seconds

    SR-71

    1 hr. 07min. 53.69 secs.

    Average spd. 2,124.51 mph. !!!!!!!!!!

    May 1st 1965 t(hat's right 1965!)  YF-12A (SR-71 beta lol)

    Alt. 80,257 ft.

    Spd. 2, 070.101 mph

  13. i think it was the blackbird, 3 times the speed off sound, at 85.000 feet, facts might be a bit out, but thats about the jist off it

  14. The Lockheed Blackbird SR71.  It has been said it lands before it takes off.  A bit of exaggeration I would say.
