  1. The fastest and easiest way to divorce is to not fight by doing an uncontested divorce.  You can have the forms filled out for you online using one of the many online divorce sites like DivorceWriter; sites like these ask questions and automatically fill out your state divorce papers for you for a $149 fee (kind of like turbotax fills out tax forms).  Follow the filing instructions that come with your forms; these should roughly be (depending on state):

    1) Go to county court clerk, File Divorce Petition, and pay filing fee ($100-$300ish depending on state).

    2) Sign Settlement Agreement with spouse

... Wait for any mandatory "cooling off" periods (for example, in Texas you must wait 61 days from day you filed petition)...

    3) File Settlement Agreement and Final divorce papers with court.

    4) Wait for Judge to sign off on divorce... (some states require a hearing others don't)

If you don't want to do the forms yourself, you could consider hiring a divorce mediation firm instead of lawyers representing each of you.  If you each hire separate lawyers, it will be much more expensive, and will likely take much, much longer.

    Good Luck.

  3. You can pick up a Divorce Kit at office stores, Barnes and Nobles, Best Buy, OfficeMax, etc. It runs around $30-35.00. Then you go to the courthouse, domestics, and tell them you'd like to file for divorce, Pro Se (yourself). There is a filing fee which varies, in Kansas it's $156.00. You will have to have the papers typed, notarized and copied. If there is going to be a fight over details, you will have no choice but to see a lawyer, but if you can work things out, this is the cheapest way to go, albeit somewhat tedious. I bought my kit from Socrates. Ask the Clerk of the District Court if the papers they give you are the only ones you'll need to fill out, you may just be able to get away without having to purchase the kit. Good luck to you. I did my divorce this way and it worked out nicely. We didn't have children involved, but there is a section on the kit that deals with visitation, child support  and things like that. It will take you through each process and inform you of some time allotment, and toll free # for help. The only thing about doing it this way is that no one can give you any legal advice. Some of the forms have a lot of legal lingos to go by, you can find the answers to some of them confusing blanks in the booklet that comes with your kit. This is the cheapest way, however, if you're willing to shell out a few more $$ and save yourself some 'leg work', by all means, then have someone do it for you, will cost around $150 for that service.
