Technically, the YF-12 (an interceptor using the same platform as the SR71) would have been the fastest combat airplane. Except that only 3 were built, and it never entered operational service (but still fired a few missiles during tests, including one at Mach 3.2, so it was shown to be capable of combat). Top speed was Mach 3.35.

For in service aircraft, the fastest ever remains the MiG-25, with a top speed of Mach 3.2 (that however ruins its engine).

MiG 25 codenamed Foxbat by NATO.

Rumoured to be specifically designed to intercept the SR71 and the A-11.

Without a load, it can go faster than Mach 3

With a combat load, that speed is reduced to Mach 2.8

This is actually pretty good. The f-16, with a light load : sidewinders on the wing tips, can barely go past Mach 2. The F-14 doesn't go faster than Mach 1.81 loaded and the F-15 Eagle, Mach 1.78 loaded.

Speed isn't life, that is true, but since your question is about speed, here you go.

Max operating altitude is 67,000 feet but it has been up to 123,492 feet or so for a sustained altitude record. (The covert designation for that aircraft was Ye 266M)

Typical max operating speed is Mach 2.5 because the engines tend to want to become ramjets and they overspeeded often. After flights at Mach 3, the engines were junked.

PS:  SR71 Blackbird is purely a reconnaissance aircraft that flies at 80,00 feet and Mach 3.2 It cannot carry any kind of armament, defensive or offensive, so, it is not a combat aircraft.

I could tell you but I would have to shoot you.  There was a vapor trail seen via a satellite where the speed of this craft was way off the chart. Something like 15 mins to cross the continental U.S.  Stay tuned..

I know that the SR-71 Blackbird (or something like that) is the fastest plane but the fastest fighter plane would probably be a mig
