  1. wrestling is. it also is a great sport. it helps with mma very much

  2. if you're worried about how fast you learn a martial art you will never make it. MArtial arts aren't about getting a black belt as fast as you can, their about taking your time and learning at your pace. Karate, Taekwondo, and judo usually take about the same amount of time to learn, and are like all martial arts not just about getting your black belt.

  3. Karate I guess, for my experience.

Tae Kwon Do isn't a real martial art, so avoid like the plague!

It's more of a sport, and being able to do the can-can won't help you in the real world. (TKD has too much emphasis on spectacular kicks)

Go for karate, and good luck

  4. i disagree...they dont all take the same amount of time.

in judo you get right to the meat and potatoes of how to fall, how to throw etc.

in taekwondo you get nothing but sport tip tap sparring. but before that you have to learn basic punches and kicks. then you have to learn a form. taekwondo is basically a korean version of japanese (not okinawan) karate. impact fighting...ie...only punching and kicking for the most part. no throws, or joint locks.

in karate you have to learn basics, and forms...but you also have to break down the forms for combat applications. it takes longer, but is generally better than tkd in my opinion. okinawan karate is well rounded in striking, kicking, locking, and throwing.

in this situation id say judo is fastest to learn. but its a sport and is limited in its use in the street, as it is not a complete art...it does not teach standing joint locks, or any strikes (except in kata) ...and often relies on the "gi" or uniform to effect its throws.

taekwondo (or japanese karate) is second fastest but is all sport..and is also limited in street usage...however it is punching and kicking only, and doesnt teach standing joint locks or throws.

okinawan karate takes longer to learn. but it is more well rounded...it's like learning both simultaneously.

so to equal okinawan karate...you'd have to study judo AND taekwondo...and even then the standing locks are missing. so you need chin na, or jujutsu on top of it. so you have to learn 3 arts rather than one...so sometimes the quickest and easiest is not the best.

but karate and taekwondo neither have much if any groundfighting. and judo does.

of the ones listed...personally i'd study okinawan karate, and take some seminars in judo/brazilian jujutsu/sambo to add some groundfighting skills. but there are no shortcuts..it takes time and practice..just enjoy the journey and don't worry about the destination...you'll get there eventually.

if you want fast results, just go find a self defense class..krav maga, military combatives, police tactics...senshido...etc..

as a point of interest...if you find a good hapkido school, you can learn virtually all of that at once. it can be fairly hard to find a good hapkido school however.

  5. None if you want to be good but i would say judo you can pick up on pretty fast. I don't do the other 2 but judo you can learn a couyple of judo throws pretty fast

  6. Well i did aikido and it only has 6 belts well it does in the UK anyway

  7. They all take about the same amount of time, but why are you concerned on how fast you learn it. You should be worried about how long you can commit to it.

  8. all of those arts take a decent amount of time to learn....what would you be applying it for...the ring/octagon, self defense, or kick to kick a bully's ***..?? My best bet would be Wing chun kung fu...it was specifically designed to be picked up fast and applied to whatever amount of force you need to use in a situation...well rounded and faster to pick up because of the way it is taught...good luck....also, TKD is nothing like Karate...ITF TKD is a far superior art technically and practically than Karate...

  9. Martial arts take about the same amount of time to learn.

If you're athletic, or have the potential to be athletic you will progress faster than average.

And for the person that said TKD was korean version of karate or something? That is major insult.

  10. BJJ! Well boxing ain't that hard either.

  11. Tae Kwon Do is the easiest.

  12. wingtsun. its the most efficient martial art and you should start contact training on the first night.

    totally practical self defence system
