  1. The Offenhauser in line 4 cylinder that used to power Indianopolis race cars:   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offenhauser   An Indy race car weighed close to 1500 pounds and with the last generation of Offy engine pumping out 770 hp, it had a little less than 2 pounds of car per horse power - VERY fast acceleration!

And for the uninformed people who answered the question wrong....  neither the McClaren nor the Bugati is the fastest car made.  Officially its the Shelby SSC Ultimate Aero.

  2. Ummm, I believe she said 4cylinder. I've never heard of a 4 cylinder mclairin but who knows. Well I'm not sure if this is the fastest 4 cylinder vehicle EVER, but I would say the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution would be just about one of the fastest 4 cylinder cars in productions today. They come turbocharged stock and have ridiculous quarter mile times. Here I'll give give you a few links. The first is info on the mclairin stating the it is a 12 cylinder. The second is some info on Lancer Evo and the third is the manufactures website for the Lancer Evo. It is an amazing car, relatively affordable and can smoke my Mustang GT. Hope I helped.

  3. production car wise, currently its the Dodge SRT-4. it can go about 221 at top speed. the article below has details.

I bet Mclaren is a good bet too though.

  4. mclaren
