  1. Wildblue tends to have slightly lower latency times.

Latency is the number of miliseconds between making a request and the beginning of recieving the information.

Remember, satelites are parked in "geo stationary" orbit, about 23,000 miles UP.  The radio signal, traveling at near light speed, must travel 23,000 miles up AND 23,000 down for you to get anything.

Somewhere in that process the satelite itself has to request the information from a station on the ground.. so that's another 23,000 miles traveled.

Most satelite systems have between 1000 and 1600 milisecond latency compared to 49-99ms latency for ground based internet like DSL or Cable.

WildBlue averages 1000-1200ms where as Hughesnet is 1200-1600ms

in my experience and based on the information of the satelite installers in N. California.

IF highspeed mobile broadband is available in your area.. I'd purchase THAT over Satellite any day.  Mobile broadband thru AT&T or SPRINT will be 99ms latency and 768kbps to 3.0mbps depending on your area.

Its comparable in price and better in speed to WildBlue's Medium package.
