I am interested in the cost and labor involved to build an electric car, built out of a regular sized sedan, that can travel 150 - 200 miles on one charge and reach freeway speeds of 70 mph.

  1. Its 100% feasable they can make a electric car go faster than Ferrari its only a one seater but it works With better and ongoing development we have the capability right now as we speak to make a 6 seater car that can go 300 miles to the charge and go about 125 mph. Its also possible a have a small 3 gallon biodiesel tank tank can help with hills etc. We already have the technology but all we need is investors.

  2. with regular batteries you can't get what you want,

however here's a car that's coming out next year that's getting close to what you want

  3. We built one back in 1984 in high school. A VW Karmon Ghia. It was used during our homecoming.

Very feasabile - if only car manufacturers would not cater to the oil industry.

  4. It all starts with how to put upon public roads a vehicle that meets all the safety rules of passenger vehicles. This governmental body is a direct response to the will of the people.Yes-it is flawed and yes it is subjective. The end result is that it righteous and sincerely relevant. Feasibility studies must start here. Trust no-one within this house of thieves. They are the bell-ringers and sound-offs to the ultra-rich oil mongers. You WILL be at thier mercy (deathly-so) if you are revelent to thier profit margin. I'd hire a mercinery protection squad to guard your life.

  5. A careful look at the numerous websites mentioned in the other answers will reveal that there aren't any electric cars in production now, at all.  All of these manufacturers were promising their cars in 2008, and that came a bit too fast for them.

Again, the problem is the batteries: there aren't any which can perform anywhere near your specifications.  Your desired range is twice what is possible with a body that's a third the weight of what you've described.  As to the top speed, any electric car can go fast, but it won't do it for very long, which is the trick with the Tesla.  When the big Tesla expose comes out next year it will be revealed that the range claimed for the car was wildly exaggerated.  Note that reporters were treated to fast rides, but nobody took a car home to test.

  6. They are really great.  I just would like to recharge the batteries from a nuclear power source than a coal burning power plant.

  7. there are electric cars that exist  - you charge them overnight, or at an electrical outlet.

but they are small, lightweight, and, if my memory is correct  can usually don't go above 40 or 50 mph.    Sorry, i don't remember the max distance.

So - the feasibility is sort of there already - but several things need to be improved significantly to get the performance you want.

  8. The batteries is the problem. If U increase the batteries u will increas the weight and make it less efficient. Range is less than 200 miles and will be even less as the batteries age.

  9. If you can do that, do it quick and sell it to GM.  They are spending $50 million trying to do the same thing.  (Chevy Volt)  Notice they haven't succeeded - yet.

  10. there is no doubt that an electric vehicle will be cheaper to operate. to get the range you want you would have to go to lithium battery technology and that would be expensive. I converted a full size motorcycle to electric, and range on battery is a problem. I constructed a gas driven battery charger and installed it in the frame along with the drive motor, 4 U-1 AGM batteries and controller. It runs great, keeps up with traffic, and also be plugged in for charging. do your research, check out the sites provided.

  11. There are a couple cars coming out in the next few months which meet your qualifications pretty well.

Here's a video tour of the Aptera facility, which will give you an idea about the cost and labor required:
