  1. A filter is used to filter out electrical noise (from induction etc).. It basically consists of a resistor and capacitor which takes out the spikes etc that occur and with a low the capacitor will take the load and keep the voltage static.. and if there is a voltage spike the resistors will dissipate that voltage..


  2. In electronics, a filter circuit (and there are many different designs) is a circuit that passes some frequencies and rejects (does not pass) others.

    Low Pass: passes all frequencies below a set point and rejects those above.

    High Pass: passes all frequencies above a set point and rejects those below.

    Band Pass: passes all frequencies in a set "band" and rejects those above or below that band.

    Band Reject: rejects all frequencies in a set "band" and passes those above or below that band.

    Low pass filter can be a simple parallel capacitor.

    High pass can be a simple series capacitor.

    Band pass can be a parallel capacitor and inductor.
