What is the first cd you bought in the genre that is now your favorite?

For me it was Mezmerize by System of a down and the genre is metal. I got it a few years ago and when I did I listened to it probably about 100 times in the first week. My tastes in metal has changed a lot but I still think it's a pretty good cd.

The first time I'd ever heard of metal was like SlipKnoT. My friend recommended them to me but at first I thought they were too heavy. The first song that really got me started was wait and bleed then I went to MuDvAyNe and Disturbed. It was like a year later that I finally got into real metal I started out with Cradle of Filth, Divine Heresy, Job For A Cowboy and finally got into the good **** like Behemoth, Gorgoroth, Dimmu Borgir, Emperor, Mayhem, Meshuggah, Finntroll, etc.

Hey, wb Adam.

Favorite genre being Deathcore, Count Your Blessings by Bring Me The Horizon was the first CD for that genre.  I played that over and over..and still do haha.

Welcome back Adam!

Tool's Undertow back in 1994, even though some people debate about them being Progressive Rock/Metal they helped me get into Prog. if it weren't for them I probabaly wouldn't be listening to bands, like Pink Floyd, Isis, Dream Theatre, and Opeth.

The first CD (it was actually a tape) I bought in metal was Screaming For Vengeance - Judas Priest.  I bought it in 1982 and I was 12.  Good God I feel old now - LOL.

My favorite genre is Metalcore.Thrill Seeker by August Burns Red.I love that cd.When I brought it I would listen to at least 3-4 times a day.It's still one of my favorite cds til this day

I bought three Pink Floyd cds at the same time (Relics, Atom Heart Mother, and I think The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn). My dad already had a few and those were the only cds that were there at the time. I was trying to collect all the Pink Floyd cds

hmm, tough one. It depends on where you believe that alt rock ends and indie rock begins on that particular border. It could be either Sonic Youth's Goo or the Folk Implosion's Take a Look Inside. For some reason I'm also remembering Pavement's Slanted and Enchanted being right in there too, but it was definitely after Goo, and I think it was after Take a Look Inside.

I think The U-Men got me going on the punk/alternative thing.  They released a single, don't remember what it was, but the b-side was 'That Smell'.  Fast and loud, with these really odd vocals.  I kept listening to that thing over and over.  I think it was a Sub-Pop release.  I think that one sent me on my musical explorations.

Well, the first CD I bought in the Classic Rock, I suppose, was actually Pink Floyd The Wall.

Here is a bit of funny info... The first Compact Disc I ever bought was that Ugly Kid Joe album. HAhAHAHAhahahaha... gees... what a change in musical taste since I was a kid.
