What is the first step to getting a motorcycle permit?

im 16 years old, i live in california and i want to get my motorcycle permit. i dont know what the first step to getting one is! should i take the MSF course first or what?

Getting a regular drivers license. The motorcycle part is just an endorsement on that. Learning how to ride on an old, beat up bike that won't mind being dropped a few times. Taking the MSF. Reading the test book. Going to the DMV so someone can watch you ride around without killing yourself or anybody else.

Now,  You'll have to sign up for the class.  The law has changed.  You have to take a three day course to get that motorcycle endorsement on Your driver license or motorcycle only license.
