    This is because the VI means 6 which means the charge of Chromium(Cr) is +6 and we know that the charge of the sulfide ion is -2 because S is in group 16/6A on the periodic table so since the charge of Cr is +6 and the charge of S is -2 you need 3 S to have a total negative charge of -6 to cancel out the +6 charge of Cr so since you need 3 S it's CrS3.
