  1. multiply length by width--

  2. I've never hung drywall, but I think what you want is the total area for all your walls. Is that it? If so, this is how I'd find it:

    Two of your walls are 17' by 8', and two of them are 14' by 8'. Simply find the area one wall (the area of a rectangle is its length times width) and multiply it by two to find the area of both walls. Then do the same for the other measurements and add the totals together.

    17 x 8 = 136 sq ft (area of 17 by 8 wall)

    136 x 2 = 272 sq ft (area of both 17 by 8 walls)

    14 x 8 = 112 sq ft (area of 14 by 8 wall)

    112 x 2 = 224 sq ft (area of both 14 by 8 walls)

    272 + 224 = 496 sq ft (area of all four walls)

    (Obviously, once you've got the basic concept, you wouldn't have to write all that down or really even think about it much.)

    If you want a formula, where l is the length of the room, w is the width of the room, and h is the height of the room, it might look like this:

    2(l x h) + 2(w x h)

    Like Jeff 01 said, this doesn't take into account any windows and doors.

  3. If you cant work it out you got no rights pricing the job.They call people like you " COWBOYS" But 17'x8'X2=272'

    14'x8'x2=224'

    TOTAL square ft = 496

    Do a good JOB at a FAIR price You may get there.GOOD LUCK.

  4. 496 wall sq ft

  5. youse guys furgot the ceiling

    walls 496

    ceiling 238

    total sq.ft......wait for it ......734

  6. 17 x 8, twice =224 sq ft

    14 x 8, twice =272 sq ft

    total =496 sq ft.

    Not taking off any window or door areas, that would make it less.

  7. Base times height=area

    so area times area?
