I know this is basic, but how do you determine what percentage one number is of another. For example, 20 is what percent of 46?

Thanks

  1. Listen to the first answer.  The second answer is nonsense.  .20 x 46 is 9.2, which does not mean anything.

A quick way to do it is to divide the amount of points you got (20) by the total amount of points on the test (46).  If you got over 100%, say you got a bonus question and your score was 48/46=1.04=104%

    So 20/46=0.43 and .43=43%

  2. okay do 20/100 = x/46 and then cross multiply and solve for X

  3. 20/46 x 100 = 43.5 (3sf)

  4. All you need to do is

    0.20 x 46

Just move the decimal of the percent two places to the left each time and multiply it. That's what I always do.

PS Cross Multiplying is good for checking, but I hate using it daily because it takes up so much space/time.
