  1. average 1250 give or take a few

  2. The bullets shot thru a 22 LR can shoot at different speeds.

For instance, the Stinger made by CCI is 1,640fps.  The CCI Velocitor is a 40 gr and is 1,435 fps.

The CCI mini mag is 1,280 fps.

The standard bullet is somewhere in the 1,240 fps area.

I am the ammo man and work the ammo counter at a large sporting goods store in Mich.

  3. Remember, its not the rifle, but the cartridge itself, and in this case the rimfire cartridge.

Anyway, your basic value pack loads will be about +/-1250 FPS

  4. 1,255 feet per second.*. The fastest Winchester 22 L.R. with a 40 grain bullet is 1,435 feet per second.*. The slowest is the 22 short at 1,095 with a 29 grain bullet.*...

  5. the riffle does not decide the fps (velocity) of the 22 cal bullet. sorry i do not know the speeds off the top of my head, but it varies greatly depending on that ammo, and intended use of the ammo. you have different ammo such as, the cheap bulk stuff, target ammo, competition ammo, as well as different powers, different amount for powder, and different tips/projectiles/bullets (full metal, Hollow, conical, ect.)

and all these different factors conclude in a wide range of velocities.

also the velocity at the muzzle is higher than when down range, so the force of impact varies with the distance.

lastly, a simple google search online can give you the numbers you are looking for. and also most of the velocities and properties of the ammo is written on the box, so you needn't look too far.

  6. The normal .22 Long Rifle is a 40-grain lead bullet at 1255 fps. Hollowpoints usually weigh 36 grains and go 1280 fps.

  7. For firearms, it depends on the cartridge not the gun. For .22 shorts and CB longs (in a .22 LR chamber) you'll probably find its about 800 fps. For .22 LR subsonic rounds its probably around 1000 fps. For standard velocity, its going to be about 1040-1100 fps. For high velocity rounds its going to be around 1200 fps. And for hyper velocity rounds you're looking at 1400+ fps. For .22 WMR, and .22 Centerfire the numbers climb much, much higher (2300-3200 fps).

For pellet guns, its probably 800 fps, but that's just a guess.

  8. Lets assume you mean the .22 LR.

    1) 40 grain and 60 grain rounds are available in subsonic speeds (less than 1100 fps)

    2) CCI makes the 40 grain "Velocitor" which travels over 1400 fps from a 24" barrel. The same manufacturer makes the "Stinger" that leaves at over 1600 fps from a test barrel of the same length.

Barrel length affects velocity at a rate of approximately 30fps per inch.

  9. It all depends on what YOU mean when you say 22 cal rifle

Most people who say 22 cal are referring to airguns, and they fire a 22 caliber pellet at (depending on the model) between 700 and 900 feet per second.  Of course, they generally only fire a pellet that weighs 14 grains, or under 1 gram

a 22LR, an actual firearm, fires a 40 grain bullet (just shy of 3 grams) at a bit over 1200 feet per second

a 22 hornet, an actual firearm, fires a 50 grain bullet at 2500 fps

a 223 remington, pretty much the same ammo the army uses, fires a 50 grain bullet at 3400 fps

a 220 swift fires that same 50 grain bullet at 3800 fps

these are all considered 22 caliber rifles

there are many other cartridges that are 22 caliber as well, but these cover the extreme spread
