  1. DHCP stands foy Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. DHCP dynamically assigns TCP/IP addresses to clients in the domain. It can be used to group clients within subnets, and it can be used to assign clients within the subnets IP address of Default Gateways and DNS or WINS server addresses among many other parameters. DHCP also updates the DNS servers with client records the Host A and PTR records to be exact.

DHCP can also be used to assign parameters to clients in Vendor and User Classes.

    Cheers

  2. The function of DHCP is to automatically assign IP addresses to client computers. You don't have to worry about assigning IP addresses manually with DHCP.
