  1. It tells the computer what position the crankshaft is in.


  2. the crank shaft sensor lets the computer know the position of the crank shaft. then the computer can tell the spark plugs when to fire there spark.

  3. The Crankshaft Position sensor abbreviated a CKP is used to measure the speed ( RPM) the crankshaft is spinning at and where the crankshaft is located at.  The PCM uses this information to tell what stroke each piston is on so that it knows when to ignite the spark plug for each cylinder.
