What is the function of a download manager?

I have a satellite connection which has a specific number of download MB per 24 hour period. I keep getting hit with a FAP but during the times this occurs, I am not on line. My wireless router also has a secure password. I was told download a Download Manger.

The purpose of a download manager is if you want to "pause" the download, you can. You can then resume the download at a later time, and not have to start from the beginning.

Although you might think your router is secure, i do suggest to change your security password once again. There are a couple of wireless security standards nowadays such as  WEP, WEP2,WPA. You can check these terms on wikipedia for more info. Some method is better than the other. If you can use a better security configuration  then use it. You can also check your download status as soon as you turn off PC, check the status the next day. If there is a change and you've got only 1 pc at home, this means either the provider is not calculating your downloads in MBs/Gb correctly or someone stealing your internet - turn on red lights.

A download manager is a software which enables you to download files from the internet (HTTP,FTP) etc concurrently. Some of these programs allow you to resume downloads, limit download speed. For you is it good to schedule downloads giving date/time. It allows you to turn off computer when all downloads are ready too. Examples: Free Download Manager, Reget, Flashgot, Mass downloader.
