  1. xylol is just a common trade name for a mixture of the o, m, and p xylenes. This flammable solvent found in certain paint thinners  and in model airplane glue is used in tissue fixation because it rapidly removes lipid components allowing the hydrophilic structures to adhere to glass.


  2. I believe it is xylol, not xylene, that is used in the staining process and this is typically done in types of biochemistry for identifying cells or anomilies present that should not be.
