Question:

What is the future of the energy industry?

Will we continue to rely on fossil fuels - are the OPEC nations being honest about their oil reserves? Is renewable energy really a viable solution to sustain our current level of energy demand? Will we have to resort to nuclear power, or is there another option?

  1. We have to find ways of creating our own

energy. We could open and create new coal

mines for gas and electricity, technology can

make this feasible,  but  coal will not last but it will give us time to get other projects to be up and running.

Better use of hydro electricity, also the use

of  sea tides, wind turbines, solar energy with

nuclear energy coming way down and a last

resort for me for power supplies. Then we have methane

gas, this can be produced from all waste product

that can be utilised for heating and electricity,

each home could produce methane from

body waste and other biodegradable waste.

  2. Interesting.

In any case, fossil fuels will be exhausted sometimes. However, there is a continuous creation of fossil fuels as things continue to decompose day by day year by year. I guess the rate of consumption of energy is greater than the the rate of restoration. Therefore, it is a high time to think of solar power as a best energy source as we go green. This is because:

    - it is naturally available without limit

    - it can be extracted anywhere

The main thing is to invest in researches to improve the efficiency of the covertors.

Therefore I see the dim future of energy ending up on solar solution.

  3. Renewable energy is the future. Check out http://www.earth4energy.info they'll explain why.

  4. Fossil fuels are running out and far too polluting and adding substantially to global warming. Renewable resources have problems, see below.

By default there will have to be more and more reliance on nuclear fuel. It is the only feasible fuel to meet increasing power needs without adding to global warming to the same extent as traditional power production methods. Renewable resources, solar and wind are not a 24/7 solution 365 days a year and have efficiency, cost and power storage problems.

Does everyone want nuclear power? No there are many problems to solve. I have addressed many of these in answer to the question, "Is nuclear power good?"

  5. many possibilities:

Nuclear (fission) power will have to be in the lead.

Renewable will gain in importance, sun, wind, geothermal

There are ways being developed to sequester CO2 output from coal and oil plants. I don't have a lot of hope for that, but i could be wrong.

Long term we may see fusion reactors as possible.
