What is the gas mileage for a 1999 Dodge Neon? Does anyone know?

I AM PLANNING A TRIP TO FLORIDA AT THE END OF THIS NEXT SCHOOL YEAR WITH SOME FRIENDS AND THAT'S THE KIND OF CAR I AM GETTING BUT MY PARENTS DONT KNOW THE MILEAGE YET. SO..HELP??

  1. Did you know that neons are some of the worse rated cars? They break down more often and need more repairs. I'd go for a honda civic (i have a 1999) and it gets grrrrrrreat gas mileage.


  2. That all depends on which engine and transmission the Neon has.  The best for fuel mileage is the SOHC with a 5-speed manual, the worst is the DOHC with the 3-speed automatic.

    I was able to achieve just over 42 mpg over one tank once in a DOHC with a 5 speed manual transmission but keep in mind that I was really trying for maximum fuel mileage that trip.  It was almost completely highway mileage and I kept the cruise at around 60 mph the whole time, no a/c, windows closed, etc.

  3. its around 30-32 on the road and about 24-28 in the city when its running right,they do real good on gas long as they stay tuned up ,but when they get to running bad they drop below 20 so keep it tuned up and you,ll get good mileage from it,good luck
