  1. Generally depends on the time of the year.

    In September through November, the subtropical jet starts dropping southward again and as the tropical systems advance westward, they are usually steered north and east away.

    In the June through August months, usually the subtropical jet is farther north and higher pressures off of Bermuda, and the general steering pattern is West  -- West Northwest toward the caribbean and southeast US


  2. Hurricanes usually make a turn to the northeast because of the Coriolis effect. Most hurricane activity occurs in between 30N and 60N where high altitude winds blow to the northeast causing hurricanes to move in that direction.

  3. Hurricanes typically shift to the northeast after reaching the Atlantic coast due to the strong upper level winds blowing from the west. You will see them making 90º degree turns to the northeast and accelerate off to southeastern Canada.
