What is the general relations in Northern Ireland to the Brits?

Can any irish answer this one? Im thinking of studying in Belfast Queens in 2008, whats the general attitude to Brits, do any groups harbour negative feelings to brits, due to past gvt. relations? much love

The brits have a bad rep here but you'll be fine most people hate the government they really have nothing against the brits just be nice and happy and don't act too patriotic!

Study in Dublin or Galway, nicer cities and you wont have to worry about being british, american, black, white, catholic, protestant, jewish, muslim, atheist, martian etc

Unionists (from the Protestant community) will probably not harbour much ill feeling towards the Brits in general and your class will probably be split at least 50/50 between the two communities.  It will depend somewhat on the course you do e.g. Irish History and Politics will probably have more Catholics than protestants.  

You should also note that as with the rest of Northern Ireland and Scotland/Wales there will be areas and bars etc which will be a no go for you with your accent. But you'll soon suss out where and when you can go.

As with anything else, when people get to know you, they will most likely judge you on your personality and not your background.

There are people who harbour hatred towards anyone they don't agree with but thankfully they are in the minority. "Queens University" in Belfast was named so because of "Queen Victoria" as was the "Royal Victoria " hospital in Belfast. So if anyone has negative thoughts towards "The British" you would imagin that they would not attend "Queens"

We are still "British" in Northern Ireland and the majority are happy to remain so. So good luck in your studies.

I am sure some people harbour a negative attitude towards the British but if you act civil and don't give anyone a reason to hate you i am sure you will do fine.
