  1. That depends on what you need to run with the generator. My 2000W emergency generator runs the 'fridge, lights, and heat without any problem (gas heat, only need electricity for the blower).

  2. Question is too vague to be answered.

Generator of what? electricity? water? heat? cool air?

    For what purpose?

    .

  3. There is no hard and fast answer BUT

Sit down and write out a list of energy using devices

Split into energy types and power ratings

Outline the energy you wish to substitute with your generator

    Thats iteration number one :-)

  4. If you're referring to an electrical generator, it will depend upon the electrical items in your house.  Normally, a 2000watt-2500 watt generator will suffice for everything to be run at once, except for air conditioner and stove.  It will run: refrigerator, lights, microwave, tv, fans.  When we have a power outage and need the generator, I shut down all non-essential items: most fans, several lights, etc.  By keeping the item usage low, it reduces the need for wattage from the generator.  I have had no problems.
