What is the generic name for "Dr Pepper" drinks?

Okay, Pepsi, RC, and Coke are considered colas. A&W and Mug are considered root beers, Sunkist is orange soda. I could go on and on.

What would be the generic term for "Dr Pepper" type drinks like Mr. Pibb, Dr. Thunder, and Dr Pepper itself without using trademark names? Is it also considered a cola?
