as we all know, there is debate after 50+ year of the real affects of Marijuana, those who have smoked it swear by the benefits, and those that havnt swear by the side effects, but as the government currently stands, why is it illegal when there are far worse things like cigs and alcohol. Also if its so bad, then why is canada along with some european countries open about its legal use.

  1. our goverment hates to admit when it is wrong  for one thing I f it were to legiize weed they woud lose a grat deal of money  they collct from all the assets they steal from people who get busted for dealing in weed  and it would put a lasge percentage of DEa and  so calld law enforcement  officers out of a job along with creating a huge drop in the jail poulation. the gopvrment does not want that to happen as the prison inmates a a huge source of cheap almost free labor for the government Not to mention the kickbacks they get from the pharimicuticul companies . that manufacture synthetic THC if pot were legalized. there would be no market  for the synthetic THC they manufacture( Marinol)

  2. I'm against it because it destroys people, just the way tobacco and alcohol do.

When you get your initial high, you will always try to achieve the same level of highness you got the first time.  Therefore, you will start on a slippery slope of experimenting with different drugs.  To me, it is just like any other drug out there:  people WILL abuse it because they want to feel good.

I am all for using it medically, but only if it really does help the patients.  The only problem is that once the treatment is done, the patient may need to go to rehab.

(I am COMPLETELY against tobacco, and against alcoholism, even though I do not think it will kill you to have a drink every now and then.  It is when people develop an addiction that it becomes a problem.)

  3. Eating a cheeseburger at McDonalds, somthing cheaper than a joint is more dangerous then smoking pot.

Now imagine if the potheads gave up pot for McDonalds food.

5 dollars a day at McDonalds can have you dead by the time you're 40.

  4. It would be competition with booze.  If booze gets too expensive, those of us who live in cities couldn't easily make moonshine.

But if pot were legal, it is so easy to grow that if it were too expensive to buy pre-rolled, people could easily grow their own.

It might also have something to do  with hemp vs. wood pulp for paper, and hemp oil being used to make alcohol fuel that would compete with gasoline.

  5. Inertia.  Lots of things are done for no better reason than because that's the way we've always done them.

At one time there was undoubtedly some stupid reason or other.  Probably to eliminate competition with tobacco or something.
