The poles are melting from global warming which will flood the whole east coast and all of Florida let alone the killer hurricanes and tornadoes. Oil is at $130 a barrel and doubling every year making gas more and more expensive. So, what is the greater threat, PEAK OIL or GLOBAL WARMING?

  1. Global climate change is potentially a threat to all occupants of the planet.  Oil prices only directly affect 1 species out of  ... millions.

    No contest.

  2. First off, global warming is not a threat. If the earth warms up a small amount, thats not too bad, I like warm weather. It's global cooling that is dangerous, I'm not a big fan of ice ages. The only threat that comes from GLOBAL WARMING is the alarmism that the movement has created. It is a movement founded on unsubstantiated scientific evidence, no computer models are not scientific evidence. This alarmist movement could eventually cost Americans trillions of dollars in taxes, regulation, and the economy suffering.

Secondly, the poles melt every year and then refreeze again and again. Because one year it melts more that it did the last year, or one decade it melts more than the last decade, that doesn't indicate that we have a climate crisis on our hands. In 2007, Antartica spread to its largest area that it has covered since recording began in 1979. On top of that, ice melting will not cause the WHOLE east coast to flood and there is absolutely no link to warming and hurricanes and tornadoes. That is all apart of the fear mongering that the far left and the media have portrayed.

Peak oil is not right on our door step like the alarmist agenda is. Some estimates put peak oil at around 2025. But we really don't know how much oil is left. We have no clue how much oil Saudi Arabia has for example. We don't know how much is yet to be discovered. There is still an estimated 7 trillion barrels of oil left, from reserves that we know about. Global demand is only 88 million barrels a day, you do the math.

I would say, even though your theoretical GLOBAL WARMING is non-existant, it is still a bigger threat because people make dumb decisions based on fear and that is exactly what our policy-makers are doing.

  3. why are some people so naive?  ^^^  global warming is all around us everyday. espically if your in coastal regions. but i say global warming is our problem. if we ever want to see Paris, and Florida still above water than we should start trying to make a difference. but also oil is so expensive right now.

  4. Well the economy and environment go hand and hand. I am extremely happy with the state of the economy and rising oil prices.  It is a freaking WAKE UP call to the world.  Notice how nobody gives a c**p about the environment when business is good.  Don't worry about peak oil, the environment is getting destroyed fast enough that we will never see the day of peak oil (2100).    It is a malfunction of our global leaders to continue this MADNESS and addiction to oil.  We need clean renewable resources NOW (not 10 years from now) so I'd say the rich oil companies have us right where they want us.  Greed and power is what will destroy us.  Not enough good people have what it takes to change it.

  5. Global warming in the long long run. Peak oil however we'll be face with this problem 50 years from now > this is running out of oil. I believe we've already reached and passed Peak Oil and our oil supply is currently diminishing as evident by the high gas prices and why oil producers are producing less and less oil. With this,  worst case is we run out of oil, our economy collapses, and we have to change the whole entire system our world runs by into electric. Global warming however, artic and antartic melts and all the lowlands in our world get flooded. Food shortage > Famine > Deaths > Total wipeout of world population.

  6. Global warming will mean little to most when they can not fed thier famly becasue food is so high do to gas prices.  I do think that something going to happen, one of those ah ha things, people saying whu did we not see that before that will put an end to both.  We geared up and it took just 3 years to chage things for ww2.  It will happen agin.

  7. Great Q

    Do some research

  8. It's way past your bed time. What flooding?

  9. well, if global warming exists, the peak oil prices will stop people from buing so much (reducing pollution of the atmosphere), but gas prices are rediculous and if the Federal Gov. doesn't do something, we will all turn into hobos begging the oil companies for money.

  10. You need Prozac.

    My 2 cents.

  11. What killer Hurricanes and Tornados? The last few years we've had less Hurricanes. As for Tornados, they happen I can't even remember a year (42 of them) that the United States didn't have any Tornados. They also can happen anywhere not just in what's known as Tornado alley.

I've looked for a report about how Antarctica fared over it's past Summer season and I can't find one. My guess it's due to the fact no major melting occured down there this season. And as for the Arctic we had a colder Winter this past year than we had in several years and a colder Spring, so I highly doubt it started melting yet. (By the way I keep hearing colder than average tempertures during the weather report. And I haven't had to turn on the air conditioner yet and it's nearly June and Summer officially starts in about three weeks.)

So I'm more worried about running out of Oil, since I suspect we are going to see increasingly  colder Winters again.

  12. Global Warming. Oil prices are destroying the economy, sure, however we are researching alternative energy sources. There is nothing that can be done to fix Global Warming, we need to read the clearly visible signs now and help to prevent it from worsening before it's too late. It's just so sad no one cares enough to do something real.

  13. If we want to stop the manmade component of Global Warming we have to stop using oil.

Essentially peak oil helps us stop the manmade component of Global by limiting the supply of oil and causing the price to rise which will eventually cut the demand for oil

Peak Oil and stopping Global Warming work together.

According to the IPCC reports if we wnat to have any chance of stopping the man made component of Global Warming we need to reduce the worldwide output of carbon dioxide to less that one tenth of what it is today.

That means that we must cut the world wide use of fossil fuels to zero in all of the nations of the world with no exceptions.

Enforcing such a ban would be a problem. Military force would be undesirable.

However the peaceful way to accomplish the same thing is to increase the world price of fossil fuels so high that we can no longer afford to use them.

  14. Neither will be a threat to those economies that are prepared to take some short to medium term pain.

Peak Oil - despite what the ever optimistic "geologist" may say - is here and self evident. The so called reserves are best guess estimates, mostly inflated for political purposes to persuade people that "business as usual" is just fine and no need to do anything different. They include massive amounts of poor grade petroleum that will yield insufficient to make it profitable for oil companies to chase it. It is simple economics - increasing demand with falling supply equals higher prices.

Climate change from human activity is also self evident and many countries are already investing large amounts to reduce emissions and increase the levels of re-use & recyling as well as tapping into cleaner energy supplies. These countries are now taking the short to medium term pain as a result. However, the long term economic benefit will be that their cost base will be reduced for resources and they will have a secure and cheaper energy base. This will make them extremely competitive and any economies that are still trying to become leaner, meaner and greener are going to suffer heavily.

It is evident that at the moment the short term - even short sighted - profit hungry minority in the US hasn't yet woken up to the fact that whether or not Peak Oil is today or in 25 years and whether reducing emissions is today or in 5 years the fact that the rest of the developed World has changed the rules for long term economic success means you either join the new system or lose out big time. Your choice!

  15. Wow, the lunes are out in force today.  I hope the alarmist have some sense of guilt for the hysteria they have created but I suspect that was their aim in the first place.   Some are convinced we have caused the recent tornadoes.  Apparently science and  English education is in a pathetic state.   How could anyone with a straight face suggest that we might be near peak oil when the left prevents exploration off the coast and in places like ANWR.  As a geologist, I can tell you that predictions of peak oil have been going on since the 1880s and they are always proven wrong yet it never seems to go away.  The problems we face today are not due to peak oil.  There clearly is a supply problem dealing with greatly increasing demand.  Global warming is but a minor problem and is mostly beneficial to all except the ice hugging left.

  16. Forget what people say, Global Warming is true and it could start happening if people dosn't start cleaning up their act.

To answer your question after really thinking about it Global Warming is probably more Dangerous. If you think about it, if Gas keeps going up people just won't drive or take taxi's considering when you catch cabs your paying for gas and labor. but the most derastic thing that would happen is people would die from heat exausten gettin to and from work, which think about if they take water it can't happen. Plus thats good for the enviornment. The most derastic thing that could and probably will happen from Global Warming is the whole worl would die from natural disasters.

  17. global warming doesn't exist like that. you people are going insane with that and it's getting on the nerves of everyone who knows how to think.

    stop being stupid.

  18. Neither, the climate-change legislation that is sponsored by Senators Joe Lieberman and John Warner.

The proposed bill -- labeled "America's Climate Security Act" (S. 2191) -- seeks a 71 percent reduction in greenhouse gas by 2050, and the goal would be met by imposing a cap and trade on CO2 emissions from power plants, transportation, and other various industrial sources.

Proponents of the bill are not telling the whole story. What they don't tell us is that this is really no different than just putting a tax on carbon emissions. It's just not transparent so consumers and taxpayers can't see it.

But when companies have to buy more credits in order to function, their costs are going to rise -- and those costs are just going to be passed on to consumers. The cost for producing electricity is going to rise, and it's going to be the American people that are paying the price. The legislation is a massive redistribution of wealth.

Congress has a tendency to enact "feel-good" bills without adequately considering the costs to American businesses and families. Senate Bill 2191 would "add a heavy drag on growth, giving our global competitors a significant competitive advantage courtesy of the U.S. Congress.
