  1. 31

  2. 62 = 2 *31 and other 2 are odd so 2 cannot be a HCF. clearly it must be 31 and it is.

  3. The Greatest Common factor of a group of numbers is the Largest number which will DIVIDE into each of them without remainder:

    Hence The GCF in this case is: 31

    as 62 = 31 x 2

    &  217 =31 x 7

    &  155 =31 x 5

  4. 31

    31*2 = 62

    31*7 = 217

    31*5 = 155

  5. Factors are numbers that when multiplied together, they give you the given.

    Example the factors of:

    1 = 1

    2 = 1 and 2

    3 = 1 and 3

    6 = 1, 2, 3 and 6  (1x6), (2x3)

    36 = 1, 2, 3, 4, 9, 13 and 36 (1x36) (2x13), (3x12), etc

    through trial-and-error, find all of the multiples of each and the largest number that each one has in common is your (GCF) Greatest Common Fractor
