  1. Sand

  2. Wow, that is tough.

The easiest thing to point to is the great pyramids, but I am not certain that is their greatest contribution to world culture.

That would be the same as saying that India's greatest contribution is the Taj Mahal, or that China's greatest contribution is the Great Wall.

I think that you could reasonably argue that the greatest contribution Egypt made to world culture is the development of extensive infrastructure, and the irrigation of croplands.

The system of wells, ditches, and water lifting devices allowed the farmers of the time to grow crops on land further away from water sources.  This allowed a much larger population to congregate in one area than ever before.  The roads and markets allowed for a wider distribution of these foods.

Because more people could live in a smaller area - a city by definition - more skills, and more diverse skills could be supported.  This allowed merchants, artists, priests, bureacrats, politicians, craftsmen, architects and technicians to exist because they did not have to spend all of their time growing food, or hunting for it.  They could simply buy it, or trade for it.

The roads allowed not only the transportation of food and manufactured goods.  They facilitated the travel of armies to defend the current borders, and also to travel to conquer new territory.

The same developments in irrigation/roads/infra-structure had been made eariler in Sumeria/Babylon, but never to the extent that Egypt accomplished.

This dense concentration of people allowed for greater exchange of ideas.  Some of the first universities were founded in Egypt.  The library at Alexandria was the worlds largest repository of written knowlege for centuries.

The pyramids were the result of this cultural revolution, not the cause of it.

  3. ancient Egyptian civilization, belly dancing and cool food.

  4. A great model of how a country with all these problems (for thousands of years) & still survives !!   lol

  5. The whole concept of a civilization

@Jabeer Belly dancing originated in Turkey

  6. Calendar and geometry.

The Gregorian calendar that is the most popular tooday ( Jan., Feb.,etc) is essentially an Egyptian calendar which had a solar year of accurate duration.( This stands in contrast to the  ancient Iraqi luni-solar calendar which could have 12 or13 lunations.)

Geometry developed in Egypt necause Nile floods would wipe out field boundaries which had to be redrawn.

The post-Alexandrian   Greek " scientific " developments combined the extant Iraqi and Egyptian knowledge and geographical extant with Greek analytical methods ( eg measurement of earth's  circumference). The West in general tends to playdown the  antecedents of the Hellenistic culture to which Egypt was a major contributor

  7. the Ancient Egyptians left us evidence of their contributions in:

medicine , for they made operations on the skull and treated many diseeases .they also mummified the dead with techniques unknown to us today.

architechture , for they constructed monuments that cannot be made with our technology .

they made the calander and the maps of the stars , they studied the planets , they made furniture and women's cosmetics and jewellery .
