What is the ground like in Utah, about to do some excavation??????

About to do some excavation in Utah will be digging a 16x56 hole with excavator 8 feet deep that has to be on grade im only use to ground in Virginia.. so is the ground near Salt Lake City Utah hard? or is it sandy? i've heard both

  1. Better bring some dynamite if you have kaliche deposits, which you probably will. Otherwise sand, rocks and gravel and not much different from the neighboring states. But the kaliche, a native clay, is like granite when it's dry.


  2. Utah is known for being geographically diversified.

    snowcapped mountains to well-watered river valleys to rugged, stony deserts.

  3. Most of the ground near Salt Lake City is sandy, silt deposits from the river.  The higher in elevation you go from the valley floor, will get rockier and rockier.
