  1. Serious criminals, terrorists, etc.  It is on an american military base in Cuba where rights don't really legally exist.  No, you can't end up there unless you are a serious concern to national security, and the law doesn't take things that you could do like felonies or misdemeanors as a serious concern to national security.

  2. The Guantanamo Bay Detention Camp is a controversial[1] United States detention center operated by Joint Task Force Guantanamo since 2002 in Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, which is on the shore of Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.[2] The detainment areas consist of three camps in the base: Camp Delta (which includes Camp Echo), Camp Iguana, and Camp X-Ray (which has been closed). The facility is often referred to as Guantanamo, or Gitmo (derived from the abbreviation "GTMO").[3] [4] The detainees currently held as of June 2008 have been classified by the United States as "enemy combatants" After claims were made that these prisoners were not entitled to the protections of the Geneva Conventions, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against this interpretation on 29 June 2006.[5] Following this, on July 7, 2006, the Department of Defense issued an internal memo stating that prisoners will in the future be entitled to protection under the Geneva Conventions.[6][7][8]

Since the beginning of the current war in Afghanistan, 775 detainees have been brought to Guantanamo, approximately 420 of whom have been released without charge. As of May 2008, approximately 270 detainees remain.[9] More than a fifth are cleared for release but may have to wait months or years because U.S. officials are finding it increasingly difficult to persuade countries to accept them, according to officials and defense lawyers. Of the roughly 355 still incarcerated, U.S. officials said they intend to eventually put 60 to 80 on trial and free the rest. On February 9, 2008, it was reported that 6 of the detainees at the Guantanamo Bay facility would be tried for conspiracy in the September 11, 2001 attacks.[10]. In May 2008, the Pentagon claimed that 36 former Guantanamo inmates were "confirmed or suspected of having returned to terrorism

  3. Its Just like a prison.they do very bad stuff like kill.YES

  4. The Guantanamo Bay prison is a military prison for enemy combatants / terrorists. People end up there if they are suspected of terrorism. That's not to say they've been tried and convicted, only suspected. It's controversial for that reason, and based on the fact that the prisoners are allegedly tortured or methods of interrogation are used that are borderline torture, but US laws can do little to stop it because it's not on US soil. All of this stuff is a matter of debate -- some people believe it's ok because they're enemy combatants, but the key word is that they are SUSPECTED enemy combatants, and in a civilized democratic country, that is not cause for indefinite imprisonment and the use of torture. Imagine if you were jailed for no reason for an indefinite amount of time and had hope for being released or having a judge review your case? Say you had done nothing wrong, but were suspected of being a terrorist, how could you ever prove your innocence? Terrorists should be imprisoned there, but I think they deserve some semblence of a legal proceeding befitting a democracy.

A US citizen could end up there if they were an MP.

  5. It is a small segment of land in Cuba that the US government has claim to.  It is one of the scariest place in the world because people who get put there have no rights.  Most of its inhabitants are considered US combatants, which means that the government feels that they are enemies of the USA and are terrorists.  Some of the people there are not, however after being treated so cruelly they most likely have an intense hatred for the US if they didn't already.  It is a high security prison where these people are held and interrogated with questionable techniques. At the minimum they are sleep deprived, blindfolded, abused and threatened with dog attacks.  Other techniques used to get these people to talk about their "plans" include water-boarding, which is where they pin you down, stuff a rag down your throat and poor water on it to make you feel like you are drowning.  If the government considers you a terrorist then yes, a US citizen could be sent and detained there.

  6. I think its not a regular prision ,is for "special" prisoners , specially dangerous ones that cannot be held in a regular prison.

Like terrorists , fundamentalist etc.I dont think that regular citizens ,can end up there unless your contibuting with Al Kaeda of course

  7. guantanamo bay is a usa detention camp in cuba for terrorists.

Well I heard the u.s milatry treat the detainees like **** and kick they asses!

  8. It is where dirty Arab terrorists, after the 9/11/01 attack on America are humanly detained. It is on the Cuban Island.

Detaining these B@s^@rds, helps insure the freedom of the USA and its citizens.

American citizens that are not terriorists cannot be put  there.

EDIT: That Ken O, liberal elitist, below would feel very differently if he was in Lower Manhatten on the day 19 Arabs from the Middle East killed 5000 Americans. LOL, he hides his sorry brainwashed left-wing @$$ somewhere up in middle Michigan.  What a tool.
