  1. chineese.

  2. I think Xhosa is hardest because of the constant clicking, and it is hard to tell the clicking apart. And to figure out where your supposed to click your tongue, in Chinese its basically 4 tones in Mandarin and 7 in Cantonese which are easier to pick up then clicking.

  3. chinese

  4. Any of the Celtic languages (Gaelic, Welsh) where the h**l else does an "mh" make a "v" sound?

  5. It depends on what your native language but for those who speak English i've heard chinese or japanese is hardest.

  6. Hello,

For English speakers references say the Basque language from Spain is one of the hardest to learn. It is apparently over 10,000 years old and its origins and structures cannot be equated to any other language

Whilst occupying Spain, Napoleon used to punish some of his officers who screwed up by making them learn Basque. Basque also has seven dialects as well.

In addition here are a few of the others:

Chinese, Korean, Russian, Arabic and Finnish.

different alphabets or writing systems (Russian, Arabic, Korean), different or difficult grammar etc. In the case of Finnish, for example, one visitor wrote "3 words : endless noun cases."

    Cheers,

    Michael Kelly

  7. Etruscan, Hittite

    All native speakers extinct
