  1. Hebrew.  The characters are not the characters we are used to, you have to read right to left, and in something like a newspaper the vowels are omitted.

  2. I would say Finnish or Korean.

That is due to the ridiculously hard grammar, and Korean's layers and layers of polite language.

That and there are so few native speakers to learn from, especially with Finnish. (Tolkien also said that Finnish was the hardest and most interesting language he came across)

Second from that I would add Japanese Chinese Russian and Arabic.

As for people who say English is the hardest language, they are just trying to boost their own native language's appearance as being 'hard' because it makes them seem smart. I think English is indeed one of the hardest languages to speak well, but it leaves so much room for error that it is one of the easiest languages to learn to speak badly.

    Hope this helps :)

  3. I have to say Polish just try to say one word properly without repiting it at least 5 times its hard trust me!!!

  4. Finnish is considered the hardest language because if you say one word with a different accent it can completely change the meaning.

  5. Category III: Languages taught at the Foreign Service Institute which are exceptionally difficult for native English speakers to become proficient in : Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, with Japanese the most difficult in that category.

The British Foreign Office conducted a language study recently and concluded that the most difficult language to learn is Basque, followed closely by Hungarian, which has 35 cases or noun forms.

  6. From my experience, Estonian and Japanese; and mind you, I speak English, Spanish and French fluently, as well as some Italian, Russian, Czech, German, Finnish and Arabic.

  7. I would guess it would be  Navajo, but only because the US used the language as a code during World War II, and nobody could break the code, ever!  Cool, huh?

  8. Icelandic (it's been proven to be much harder than English)

  9. Navajo is one of the most difficult for a non-native speaker.

  10. I have heard over and over that French is hardest to learn.

  11. English...There are too many random rules and bizarre grammar rules.  Most people who speak english don't really speak it correctly, and there are usually lots of errors in their speech and writing.

  12. chinese japenses vietamese
