  1. No one food is best for every dog or owner.

Personally, I prefer to feed raw.  There are several ways to do this: you can buy premade raw frozen formulas, you can buy whole raw meats and feed them straight from the butcher, or you can buy the ingredients (meats, veggies, eggs, etc.) and make your own formulas.  Raw feeding is getting very popular and for good reason, it is definitely one of the healthiest feeding options for a cat or dog.

Premade formula brands include Primal, Bravo, Nature's Variety Prairie, and Nature's Logic.

Moving on to dry kibble foods, Innova EVO is one of the best available, along with Orijens.  They are grain-free, low-carb, all natural foods.  They are very high in nutrition and are naturally low-allergy formulas (my mom's allergy-ridden cat has not suffered a single episode in about 3 years since switching to EVO, after about 8 years of frequent problems).

Other premium natural brands include Wellness, Artemis, Chicken Soup, Canidae, Merrick (their canned is better than their dry), Nature's Variety, Before Grains, and more.

It really comes down to knowing your dog and finding a food that works for both of you.

  2. Because every dog is different, no dog food is the "healthiest". A brand that does fantastic for one dog may not do so good for another. Some dogs need a little more of this, while others need a little more of that. Etc.

Excellent brands include - Wellness, Canidea, Innova, Solid Gold, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, Eagle Pack, Flint River Ranch, Merrick, Orijen, Taste of the Wild, Core and Timber-wolf Organics.

  3. I like Wellness.  I also like Evo and Canidae.  Although I hear Canidae has changed its formula.  check out www.dogfoodanalysis.com

Nutro has a lot of fillers like beet pulp which aren't the best for dogs.  Check out the website so that you  make sure you're getting enough bang for your buck. Some of the most expensive dog foods, like royal canin, aren't really very good at all.

  4. The answer to your question will vary from dog to dog, because there is a lot of information you haven't given us, such as:

    *-How old is your dog?

    *-What size is your dog?

*-Does your dog have any skin/coat issues?

*-Does your dog have gas/digestion issues?

*-Does your dog have any allergies?

Some dogs will thrive on Nutro Max; others may need a specialty food like Orijen 6-Fish to stay healthy.  The best way to answer this question is to have a discussion with your vet or a local specialty associate.

  5. No doubt...... Nutro products! I work for them.... they have lots of science into this food and its ultimately THE BEST for all dogs! They use quality raw food materials in the food... so your dog will only get the best quality!!!
