  1. The goliathus cacicus known as goliath beetle from Africa can weigh up to 1/4 pound.

  2. Goliath Beetle

  3. I would say it's a close tie between the Royal Goliath beetles from Africa and the Elephant Beetles found in S. America. I've raised both, and the Elephant beetles (Megasoma acteon) were much heavier, both as larvae and as adults. A much stouter beetle than Goliaths. IMHO. You also have to take into consideration the quality and quantity of food they receive as grubs; that majorly affects their development and size.

p.s. And by "heaviest bug" I'm assuming you mean insect. Not all insects are "bugs", but all bugs (Hemiptera) are insects. :)

  4. Well, if you mean EVER, the answer might be the Meganeura - a prehistoric dragonfly that had a wingspan of 3 feet or so.

  5. he Goliath Beetle (Goliathus cacicus) from Africa weighs 1/4 pound or 100 grams and is 5 inches long. The heaviest insects belong to the same family of scarab beetles as the Eastern Hercules Beetle, which is about 2 inches long including the horn. African Goliath beetles from the family Scarabaeidae are an important part of nature's clean-up crew as they recycle "used material" keeping the earth clean. Another competitor for the title is the extemely rare the South American longhorn beetle (Tytanus giganteus) that measures 25 cm!
