  1. Here is information on two North American catches that are very heavy and may still be records for North America:

**From gloomis.com publishers 2008, "HOW TO CATCH THE BIGGEST SALMON OF YOUR LIFE!" by Greg Brush regarding non-commercial, hook and line catch:

"Alaska is the salmon capitol of the world, and the Kenai River is the undisputed king of trophy Chinook waters...It has produced the current world record, a 97 lb. 4oz. behemoth, as well as another seven out of ten of the biggest kings ever caught on hook and line..."

**From Pacific Seafood, regarding a fish trap, commercial catch (date of article unknown):

"The largest king salmon ever caught commercially weighed 126 pounds and was caught in 1949 in a fish trap near Petersburg in Southeast Alaska."

**Some substantiation found at the "didgood.com" site:

"Chinook is one of the largest fishes found in Alaska's fresh water. The hook-and-line record is 97 pounds, and the largest king ever caught was a 126-pounder was caught in 1949 in a fish trap near Petersburg in Southeast Alaska.

  2. 97lbs 4oz caught in Alaska in the year 1985 on the Kenai River. Might have weight over 100, before the official weigh in.
