  1. Most are short like 5'4 but actually height is not a big deal. Weight is more of factor than height for a jockey.  They can't weigh more than 112lbs.

  2. about 5 foot!! pretty short!!

  3. Sorry the average is about 4'2"....the tallest is 5'3".

  4. no hight limit just wieght.

  5. Tallest Keith has seen if 5'3", but I once saw one that was about 6'.  He was skinny as a rail, though.  Most are usually pretty short, though.  My dad used to be a jockey, and he's 5'8", but he's tall for a jockey.

  6. Amanda has had the best answer so far...I rode (thouroughbred racing) for ten years.  The don't measure you they only weigh you.  I am near 5'5 a little on the tall side but not much,  I'm also female so naturally lighter at that height than the guys.  I think the average male jockey would be considered short (obviously) Pat Day is around 4'10 but I also rode with some other pretty tall, pretty bulimic guys over the years.  Also, with regard to whatever anyone said about not being able to weigh over a certain amount (112lbs???)  This is entirely untrue.  The weight a horse carries is determined by different factors, "scale of weight by age," past performance, etc. in order to try to establish an unbiased race in paramutual wagering.  Bug riders (apprentice jockeys) also get to carry less weight off what the horse would normally carry and that is determined by how many races the rider has one and also varies in different regions of the country but is never over 10lbs.  Finally, certain races such as the Kentucy Derby  for example, have a "fixed weight" of 126lbs.  We change the weight we carry during the race by using different saddles as it would be nearly impossible to change your actual weight 7lbs between the 4th and 5th race.  One race I might ride in a heavy (5-7lb) saddle the next I might have to break out a tiny 1/2 pound saddle to make the weight.  If you are still too light (never was my problem that's for sure) you carry lead plates in a cloth under the saddle.  Well, I know I probably "over-answered" your question but at least you have some other things about horseracing that you could argue with your wife about and know you'll be right.  See ya at the races!

  7. about 5"3-5"5

  8. Average 5" 3'

  9. most are short but i had the same argument w/ my parents and they said it was weight but i thought it was height but it turned out to be weight.
