  1. Surprisingly to many people, the height of Mount Everest is debated a little. The most recent measurement, by the National Geographic Society, was 29,035 feet (8,850 metres). When Everest was first surveyed, though, in 1952, it was measured at 29,028 feet (8,848 metres). The height does actually vary a bit, up to several metres because of different amounts of ice and snow on the summit.
