  1. Depends, again, on which country you want to know about, in England for instance the classification is quite straightforwards, (first , second or third class degrees, usually listed by two digits, i.e., an upper first is a 1,1. an upper second is a 2.1,and so on,  a lower first is a 1.3, and so on, some nations use the latin forms, such as Magna ***   laude, or summa *** laude, for the first or second, and also subdivide by the number system as well...you need to be more specific in your enquiries...the results, otherwise, will be an overload for you, and the system, as well....

  2. The highest degree is the PhD (Doctor of Philosophy).  it is higher than any other doctorate -- such as MD, DVM, DDS, D Psy or EdD (doctorates of medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, practicing psychology (as opposed to a PhD who would do research) and education).

In the US, all of these doctorates would be higher than a JD (Graduate law degree).  The JD is equivalent to the LLM in other countries.

Below these degrees are Masters Degrees like the MA (Master's of Arts) and MS (Master's of Science).  Since they are professional degrees rather than an academic degree, I would put the MBA and MFA (business and fine arts) just below these -- though many consider it at the same level.

Bachelor's degrees are lower than master's degrees and include degrees in sience (BS), liberal arts (BA) and fine arts (BFA).

Junior colleges award an associates degree (AA or AS) after two years of study.  Universities do not award a degree to people who leave college after two years -- instead they call them drop-outs.

  3. Ph.D
