  1. Mt. Everest if you count from sea level.  Mauna Loa in Hawaii if you count from the bottom of the volcano (most of it is under water).

    8,848 metres high!

  3. Because of the Earth's equatorial bulge, Ecuador's Mount Chimborazo is the farthest point from the center of the Earth, ergo, the "highest point on Earth."  (Google it for proof.)

    This is despite that we usually measure mountains in regard to sea level (making Everest the mountain with the highest elevation).  One must note that the Arctic Ocean is several miles, yes "miles," closer to the center of the Earth than is the Bay of Bengal.  Sea level is not level.
