  1. Well, there's a 50MP Hasselblad. Is that enough for you?

  2. Well, currently (I believe it still holds the record) is the H3DII-39 made by Hasselbad.  This camera sports 39 - yes, 39 megapixels!  Why would anyone NEED that many megapixels is beyond me, but if you have the money to purchase it then please be my guest.

    The price of this camera.....$37,000!

Of course, you can opt for a more consumer friendlier priced camera sporting a paltry (in comparison) 12 megapixels.

However, megapixels aren't the end all be all with digital cameras.  My digital camera sports only 6 megapixels but can take high-resolution, up-close pictures of the moon!

Also, the type of lens built into the camera also plays a pivotal role.

Do some research and find the camera that best fits you.  DSLR cameras are coming down in price and are AWESOME!  Go to your local camera store and ask the clerk about which camera might best suit your needs.

    Take care.

  3. I can't top petra_au for a direct answer, but I would say forget about megapixels! They are a useless way of measuring the quality of a digital camera's pictures, just a number that has been overhyped by electronics retailers.

  4. The highest megapixel camera I have heard of is a none consumer (not avalible to the "Joe" on the street) camera, which has about 4000 megapixels.

It actually isn't a digital camera, but it is equal to about 4000 megapixels.

Here is a link to it.
