  1. "In Belgrade in 1989 Ivan Nikolic and  Goran Arsovic sat down to a game of chess. 20 hours and 15 minutes later, after 269 moves, the 50-move rule kicked in and the world's longest official chess game, as far as moves go, ended in a draw."

  2. it depends on whom you are playing with and if you two are serious in playing the game. If you aren't serious, you can do many moves except if you can't mate him in 50 moves if the king is the only piece left.

  3. How do I know?

  4. The number is huge. Every 50 moves either a pawn must move or a piece be taken or it is a draw. But even so there are 112 potential pawn moves at the start and 30 captures. So the number is roughly similar to (but not exactly) 50 x 112 x 30. Threefold repetitions of the position do not lead automatically to a draw because it requires one of the players to claim a draw.

In practice, very very few games have continued past 200 moves.
