  1. are the people on this site crazy? I wouldn''t pay anywhere near $10 a gallon. As it is now it costs me $7.50 a day to get to school/work. The more we say we are willing to pay the more the price will go up.

I'll pay no more than $3.21 a gallon

    That's my final offer!

  2. I will pay whatever is asked until the fuel cost more than the car.  I will drive less and less as the price gets higher and higher.  I am sure that at some point when enough people cut back driving and  find alternative methods of travel the price  will stop rising.  That is exactly how the system is supposed to  work.  I don't think anyone has any concrete idea what the point might be or when we will reach it.  Or if wars will start as people become unable to go to work because they can't buy gas.  Think of the lengths people went to in Selma, Alabama to stop riding buses.

  3. i would spend about what i have or run my car on something else like solar power screens

  4. Does it matter ?  You'll pay it.  Get ready for $4 gallon.

  5. Well, i don't have my licence yet, but I would not want to pay more than $5 a gallon.  if it went higher, then I would get an electric car.  Those things are starting to get pretty cool--they're fast, charge overnight, and their driving ranges per charge are constantly increasing...

  6. Twenty five cents a gallon, after that I started cutting back!

  7. hard to say cause if you gotta get somewhere you gottta get there.

    10 dollars/gallon?

  8. My fuel is still cheap by world standards, and not yet at its historical maximum.

  9. I suppose I would pay $10 for a gallon of biodiesel if it ever got that high. I would just drive less and less. Cars are a luxury, rarely do we actually NEED them.

  10. i don't currently buy fuel. i don't even have a car. i ride my bike, or walk. however, if i did use fuel, i would pay up to $6/gallon.

  11. 6 to 7 per gallon.  I wouldn't drive anywhere but to school.

  12. When it gets so high that it is no longer profitable to work and pay my bills.

  13. once fuel is around 6 dollars then drastic changes will probably occur

  14. I'm not sure how to answer this.

I have already started making changes.  I drive less than I used to.   I carpool as much as possible.

And if the prices go up, I will drive less and carpool more.    The higher they get, the more walking, biking and carpooling.  The less private driving.

At what price would I not own a car?  I'm not sure.  I might keep the car that I have now, put $25 a gallon gas in it, and only drive it if I needed to get to the emergency room.

People who are saying "I wouldn't pay more than $10 per gallon."  What are you going to do when gas costs $10.01?   Abandon your car?   Drive to/from work when it's $9.99 and then stop when it hits $10.01?

I'm not sure that there is an honest answer to this question.  And I'll bet that if you had asked it five years ago, people would have answered $3 per gallon.    We just won't know until we're really confronted with it.

At least, that's my take on it.
