  1. The king of France knowing he could not beat the vikings allowed one of their chief to occupy the Normandy north-west of France being his vassal> There is a curious  history. The vassal had to kiss the toes of the french king and as Rollon, the viking was to proud to do this, while the king was sitting he took his foot and the king fell on the floor
