What is the history/basis of the word 'Fired' as in to Fire someone?

I think I know the answer to this, but want to put it out there to see what responses I get, and maybe, I really don't know the history of it.

  2. well, to fire also means to eject forcibly, like to fire a cannon round, etc.

  3. Back a long time ago in England when a village did not want a family or person they would set fire to their homes so they would have no place to live, and they would have to leave and find another place to live.  Now people get "fired" when their boss thinks they''re doing bad work and stuff.
