  1. It first opened as a vaudeville theater called the Empress in 1913. Then it became the Hippodrome and was converted to a motion picture theater in the late 1920's.

    In 1946 the Hippodrome interior was demolished and the Crest was built inside the Hippodrome building shell. They showed films there until 1979 when it was forced to close.

    In 1986 it was reopened and in 1996 it received a one million dollar restoration bringing it back to it's 1940 appearance. Since then it has been host to many different classic and recent films,shows, and events.

    If you mean the toothpaste, it was first introduced in 1955 and was the first fluoride toothpaste. It was clinically proven to be effective in preventing cavities and tooth decay, was hailed as a major scientific breakthrough and was endorsed by the American Dental Association. They immediately tried to find an improved version of Crest. It took 25 years and 70 different formulas. Finally, in 1980, they confirmed a new formula that was significantly better than the original formula. The new product was called Advanced Formula Crest and was introduced in 1981, it's cavity-fighting system is called Fluoristat, it received an ADA endorsment and is still used today.
